Thai food is sometimes hard to categorise from the point of view of a Westerner because it is not eaten in courses in quite the same way as in the West.
Also hot one plate meals, the territory of a lot of Thai street food are cooked quickly and served as a meal much as you might eat a sub or a sandwich when grabbing a bite.
Then there are dishes that are cooked to be eaten as part of a bigger meal where all the dishes arrive in the middle of the table for everyone to share much like a family dinner.
When eating out, most food is set out to share unless it is a quick meal to go – one plate meal type – which is a different type of dining more like grabbing a meal with friends at a cafe.
